I think nearly every person who had a D series JRSC on this board has gotten rid of it or is looking to get rid of it. Myself, sjoback, boostedex, waveoff, bigkat, and a few others.
It just doesn't make the power and it has a large detonation problem even before you upgrade. Mine was detonating after just a few days of owning the kit and I had to order the big pump immediately. All of my other mods after installing the JRSC were trying to monitor and eliminate the detonation before proceeding to higher boost levels. Then the real problems began.
Go with a swap or a turbo or get a different car if either of those options don't appeal to you.
BTW, you mispelled Covina in your sig.

hahaha, man u should know.
anyway, what are u plans now?
i know this shop that do lots of swap, and they can get me JDM motor hydrolic cluth for 3000 installed. Unless i can get rid of the SC, i might try swaping for sth else.
See u later

Which motor are you looking at? I was thinking of going B20, but everyone and there mom is go'n that route. I narrowed my decision down to picking up an low mileage 94-95 GSR or saving to buy an ITR swap. Almost tired of the boost issues. Though running a nice 8psi on my H22 sounds nice as hell http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

This gain was made at 12 degrees btc. This was before my JR BTC was installed and the timing is now at 16 degrees BTC. I spoke to Jim about it and he said that changing the timing when I got the BTC installed could have thrown off the HP numbers. I'm not very mechanically inclined so I don't know which side is the intake and exhaust. I think the intake is +2 and exhaust is +5. I'm positive on the numbers, just not which one is which.

If you don't know what your talking about, you shouldn't be posting stuff on the boards. Damn trolls, I hate 'em. j/k http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Bigkat,
Why not go B18B? Those motors are a dime a dozen and start life with a turbo friendly 9:1 compression. Bottom end is fairly tough and is actually a larger engine than the B18C which means more torque. Food for thought.

man, we got the same taste on the motor.
i either want a b18 c1 or spare enough and get b18c5. if i really need to swap, i would do it right. B 16 may not be what i want since most of them that i rode is not that fast at all.

hey marc,
quick question, is it really, the b18b stock is 9:1 compression? what would be the max boost(turbo) for street driving and reliablity? maybe it's 10 psi too? correct me if i'm wrong. thanks in advance.

Man, I know. But I'm really leaning toward an B18C(5) all-motor set-up if I go hybrid route. I already have the torque with my H22 hybrid. We are also considering trading in my coupe for this '98 GSR w/ 30K on OD or an 2k Celica GTS. My girl has a lot to do with my decision.

Oh know! Bigkat is whooped...j/k. The GSR is a nice car. I didn't test drive the Celica when I was looking for a new car so I can't comment but the GS-R is a great car. I'd forget the Type R motor. They get an arm and a leg for those engines and they are geared for naturally aspirated applications.
Fourbanger: Yes the B18B comes with 9:1 from the factory. It's always difficult to say how much boost you can run on a daily basis because it depends on your setup. I have heard some people running 9 psi daily on a B18B and crank it to 15psi at the track. But remember there are multiple factors that will determine your boost level and nothing is written in stone.
